FREE Drive-In Event.
Friends, our hearts have been cracked open by the events of the last several months– cracked open both by the injustices that our brothers and sisters of color are facing daily, and cracked open also by the fact that we have had the privilege to not even see it. This problem may be new to our consciousness, but it is not new. As we have watched events unfold, we kept hearing a couple of things from Black friends and leaders: “We need you to listen to us. We need you to learn from us.”
And so we are listening. We’re watching. We’re reading. We’re learning. Love is not in word and speech, but in action and in truth. We reject the ideology of us vs. them, and we believe that though we have been a part of the problem in the past, we can work together to be a part of the solution in the future.
The Lititz Borough Police Department has long been doing the hard and holy work of community reconciliation; because of this, we have partnered with them, Lititz Moravian Church, and Luxart Studio to bring a three part drive-in movie series throughout the month of August, hosted by our friends at the Moravian Church.
In addition to screening the movies “Just Mercy”, “Selma”, and “13th” from our large LED wall, we will briefly hear from local leaders, and additional resources for further education will be made available. We at STRAY are not placing ourselves in any type of “teaching” role in this, as we have so much to learn; we are merely facilitating.
This will be executed imperfectly by imperfect people, who will maybe say and do the wrong things at times, but who have a genuine desire to love ALL of our neighbors and a humility to know that we can do better than we have done. It is not meant to be an exhaustive “curriculum”– it’s just movies after all– but it’s meant to be a springboard and a conversation starter.
Because of limited space, registration is limited and required. Each movie will be a separate registration. Registration is free, but we are accepting donations to benefit Equal Justice Initiative, an organization working to end mass incarceration in the US, challenging racial and economic injustice, and protecting the most vulnerable.
Additionally, these are ADULT MOVIES with ADULT THEMES and ADULT LANGUAGE. Our children (4th grade and up) will be attending because we think it’s important for them to see, but we strongly advise you to use discretion in deciding whether to attend, and whether to bring your children.
We love you guys, and we hope that you will consider learning with us.
